Dr Magdel Putter is a passionate Ophthalmologist and enjoys managing a wide spectrum of medical and surgical eye conditions with a special interest in glaucoma and anterior segment eye conditions.
She completed her medical training at the University of the Free State in 2009 and her internship at the Bloemfontein Hospital complex. She started her career in Ophthalmology in 2012 at Kimberley hospital where she obtained her Diploma in Ophthalmology in 2013. This is where she developed a passion for ophthalmology and gained valuable clinical and surgical skills in an under serviced area. ent (University of Stellenbosch) in 2015.
In 2014, Dr Putter relocated to Cape Town to continue her training in Ophthalmology. She worked as a medical officer at Tygerberg hospital and gained experience in managing specifically cataract patients. She started her formal academic training at Tygerberg Ophthalmology Departm
After completion of her specialist training, Magdel did an informal fellowship for another 12 months at Tygerberg hospital, gaining extra experience in corneal conditions.
In October 2019 she became a full time consultant at Paarl Provincial hospital. Here she managed a broad spectrum of complex eye pathology and performed over 4000 cataract operations.
During 2022 Magdel started doing part time work at Paarl Eye Centre with Drs Nieder-Heitmann and Berry
She has published academic work both locally and internationally, and has presented papers at South African Ophthalmology congresses in the past. Besides Ophthalmolgy Magdel enjoys running, outdoor life and spending time with her loved ones.
