Dr. Berry obtained his MBChB at the University of Pretoria in 1983. He then specialized further and completed his MMED Ophthalmology at Stellenbosch University in 1992. In 2004 he did a comprehensive course in Ophthalmology through the University of Ulster in Ireland. He is registered as a specialist with both the Health Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the General Medical Council (GMC) in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Berry established his private practice in Paarl in 1993. Besides general ophthalmology, he has a special interest, as well as valuable experience, in cataract and refractive surgery and glaucoma treatment.
From 2002 to 2009 he was a part-time consultant in the United Kingdom, where he worked with, among others, the Optimax Laser Clinics (refractive laser surgery), Advanced Laser Clinics (refractive laser surgery) and the Netcare UK group (cataracts).
During his career, he attended numerous local and international congresses, seminars and courses and was also personally involved in the organization and training at a number of these events.

He is a formal director of Cape Town Eye Hospital LASER Group, as well as OMG (Ophthalmology Management Group). He is currently a director and the chairman of Cure Day Hospital in Paarl.
Roland is married to Elmine and they have three children and four grandchildren to date.
